Ashland City Schools and the Ashland Visual and Performing Arts Department will present its 52nd Fine Arts Show Thursday, May 4 - Sunday, May 7 at Ashland High School. The show will feature student artwork and performances by student musicians, as well as special guests.
On Thursday, May 4, the 4th-12th grade orchestras will perform, welcoming the Escher Quartet to the stage with them. The Escher Quartet is a string quartet that has performed all over the world. They will work with the students in school on Thursday before performing at the Art Show concert.
On Saturday, May 6 from 12-5, two guest artists will be at AHS giving students an opportunity to interact with professional artists. Ricki Dènes, an Ashland University alumna, will be running a hands-on printmaking station. New York Times bestselling illustrator Richard Cowdrey will have a meet and greet in the lobby commons area, and will have copies of his books available. Cowdrey will also hold a master class for National Art Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor members in the Little Theater at 2pm, in which he will give a career talk, then do a draw-along.
Throughout the weekend families and community members can hear other ACS ensembles, including the Taft choir, the Edison and Reagan 2nd grade choir, the AMS 6th grade choir, and the 5th-12th grade bands.
All music performances will take place in Archer Auditorium. Music Performances: Thursday, May 4 4th, 5th, and 6th grade orchestras - 6:00 p.m. 7th, 8th, and high school orchestras - 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 5 Edison and Reagan 2nd grade choir - 6:00 p.m. 6th grade choir - 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6 Taft Choir - 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 7 AHS Symphonic Band - 1:30 p.m. AHS Concert Band - 1:55 p.m. 5th grade band - 2:20 p.m. 6th grade band - 2:40 p.m. 7th grade band - 3:00 p.m. 8th grade band - 3:20 p.m.
Arrow Arena will be open Friday from 6-9 p.m., Saturday from 12-5 p.m., and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. to display artwork created by students from preschool through high school. The Fine Arts Show is designed to highlight the various ways Ashland students can develop as artists, whether through visual or performing arts.
