Ashland Duathlon to be Held as Part of Bicentennial

The Ashland Duathlon, which will consist of two running sections and a biking section either as an individual event or a team relay event, will be held in Ashland on Aug. 30 as part of the Ashland Bicentennial Celebration. The Duathlon event, which is sponsored by Cowen Truck Line Inc., will begin at 7:30 a.m. at
the Ashland High School parking lot. According to event organizer Scott Young, the event will start with a 1.25 mile run, followed by a 15-mile bike ride and will end with a 3.25 mile run. Young said it is exciting to have this inaugural race as a Bicentennial event. “The duathlon is for experienced and for first-time athletes. The event promotes cross training, so if you are a biker or runner it helps you to get excited and motivated to participate in the other discipline,” he said. Young noted that if participants do not want to do both sports they can put together a relay with their favorite biking or running friend to participate in the duathlon.“ The race is the final leg of a Tri-County duathlon series, which includes a race in Wooster and Holmes County” he said. “The series champions will be crowned right here in Ashland. You can do just the Ashland duathlon or all three.” To register or learn more about the event go to www.2ndwindevents.com/ashland-duathlon/ or contact Young at Whitaker-Myers Insurance at 419.289.3750.
