The Senior Art and Design Exhibition, which features the capstone experiences for graduating Ashland University art and design students, will run from Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, May 3, at the Coburn Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts (331 College Ave.). The exhibition’s opening reception on April 10 will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m., with awards being announced at 5:30 p.m.
“While the 2025 Senior Art Exhibition provides the capstone experience for graduating art and design majors, it represents more than just students’ studio art experiences,” said Cynthia Petry, director of the Coburn Gallery. “For these students of the liberal arts, the exhibition is the culmination of their undergraduate careers at Ashland University.”
This year’s exhibition includes graphic design, digital art, mixed media, painting and ceramics from five talented senior artists – Richie Delaney, Jacob McCabe, Avery Rosso, Mason Smith and Saylor VanAuker.
Delaney, from Huron, Ohio, will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in art education and a minor in business administration. While taking classes as a full-time student, he helped successfully launch two business, one being Dorm Dudes Breaks, which has reached sales of $10 million in the past year. With a keen eye for strategy, branding and growth, Delaney plans to continue to make an impact in the business world, and upon graduation, will stay employed with the businesses that he and his friends have built.
McCabe, a native of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, is set to graduate in December 2025 with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art degree (graphic design concentration, digital art and communications minor). At Ashland, he exhibited work in the Juried Student Art + Design Exhibition in 2024 and has created designs for the AU football team’s recruiting and social media efforts. He also is a member of the football team. McCabe plans to pursue a graphic design career in the sports field after graduating.
Rosso, of Avon, Ohio, is on schedule to graduate with a B.F.A. (graphic design concentration, digital media production minor). She created/branded the Holmes County Veteran Services website, and during internships, made graphics and social media posts for Green Impressions (landscaping) and Safe-T-Cover (aluminum enclosures). She also was a four-year member of the AU women’s soccer team, playing in 70 career games for a program that qualified for the NCAA Div. II Championships field all four years, and she serves as the president of AU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Rosso hopes to land a job in graphic design or another form of multimedia with a professional sports team.
Smith, from Ashland, Ohio, is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in art education. His artwork has been recognized in several juried exhibitions at Coburn Art Gallery, as he earned the 2023 Dean’s Award, 2023 Best In Show and 2024 Honorable Mention. His work was also featured in the Other People’s Prints Exhibition at the Wayne Center for the Arts. Academically, Smith has excelled as well having received the Class Academic Honors Award from the Department of Art and Design in both 2022-23 and 2023-24, and he’s been on the Dean’s List multiple times. He interned for the Coalition for Christian Outreach and was an active member of the Art Club. Smith has plans to teach art in a K-12 setting for his career.
